Solutions

Stratumly for highways

Asset register, inspection, and reporting in one place, sized for county highways budgets.

What you get

Road, bridge, sign and gully registers, defect and pothole reports on tablet, condition dashboards for executives, and AI surface-defect detection from drone surveys, all in one platform.

Pain we’re replacing

  • The asset register, the work-management system, and the spreadsheets that link them never quite agree
  • Pothole reports on paper or in unsupported apps
  • No twin story for critical bridges and tunnels

How the three pillars apply

Stratumly is one platform with three layers. Here is what each layer does and why it matters for highways.

Pillar 0

Spatial Data Platform

Road, bridge, sign and gully registers in one place, with potholes and defects logged on tablet and condition dashboards for the executive.

The horizontal foundation for every operator who needs to know where their assets are and what's happening to them.

Explore Spatial Data Platform

Pillar 1

Inspection & Intelligence

AI-assisted surface-defect detection from periodic drone runs, automatically writing crack and pothole findings into the asset register.

Turn periodic drone and LiDAR surveys into continuously-updated intelligence about your asset base.

Pillar 2

Digital Twin Studio

Twins of critical bridges, tunnels and high-mast lighting, with structural-load and traffic-impact monitoring.

A premium tier for the most critical assets that justify a deep, sensor-bound 3D model.

One platform for your whole estate

The same map, register, and audit trail that operators in highways use to see every asset, defect, and work order in one place.

Who uses Stratumly day-to-day

One tenant, multiple roles. Each role has the surfaces they need without the licence overhead of a separate product per persona.

Head of highways asset management
Owns the carriageway, structure and street-furniture registers; signs off the annual condition report and the bridge / structure programme.
Highways inspector
Drives the network on a risk-based inspection schedule, logs defects on tablet (offline-capable), submissions auto-create features in the defects layer.
Bridge / structure engineer
Schedules General and Principal Inspections, ingests drone / climber survey data, annotates defects in the 3D viewer, writes findings back to the structures register.
Term-maintenance contractor liaison
Pulls work orders into the contractor handover map, tracks repair-cycle KPIs, exports CVR data against the contract.
Network manager / NRSWA officer
Coordinates streetworks notices on the map, embeds public-share works maps for the council site.

Concrete workflows

Real scenarios, end-to-end, off the same map and audit log. Not slideware: each step maps to a documented surface.

Risk-based safety inspection

Statutory inspection regime; defects logged on tablet land in the right layer with the right severity, no re-keying.

  1. Inspector picks up the route on tablet; offline-capable, the network and previously-logged defects are pre-cached.
  2. Defect form (carriageway / footway / sign / lighting) captures severity, photo, GPS; submission auto-creates a feature in the right defect layer.
  3. Severity drives the intervention-due-at attribute; an attribute-stats analysis aggregates open defects by ward and severity onto the safety dashboard.
  4. A heatmap of recurring defects becomes input to next year's surface-treatment programme.

Bridge / structure inspection cycle

General Inspection every 2 years, Principal Inspection every 6, with a single audit trail across both.

  1. Drone or climber survey is uploaded; processing pipeline produces a 3D tileset.
  2. Engineer annotates defects (cracks, spalling, bearing wear) directly in the 3D viewer; annotations land in a system-managed layer.
  3. Element scoring rolls up to the structure record; the structures register reflects the latest BCI / SCI / ESCI without spreadsheet re-entry.
  4. A dashboard widget shows structures below intervention threshold; capital programme prioritisation runs off the same data.

Capital programme prioritisation

The annual capital programme falls out of the data instead of being built in Excel from PDFs.

  1. Filter the carriageway layer to surface ages > 12 years; cross with the defect heatmap.
  2. Run proximity to schools and hospitals to weight social value; intersect with disadvantage-index polygons.
  3. Output ranked schemes feed a public-engagement dashboard; consultation comments come back via a public-share form.

Asset register templates we ship

Starter feature classes with sensible attribute schemas. Edit the schema, add fields, or replace it; templates are starting points, not lock-in.

Integrations & data sources

  • OS Open Roads / OS MasterMap Highways Network

Reference layer under tier entitlement; alignment with national network IDs.

    Planned
  • EA flood-monitoring API

Live flood warnings overlay the highway network for incident response.

    Available
  • WDM / Yotta / Causeway

Two-way sync for shops still running a separate asset-management product.

    Planned
  • Drone vendors via passive ingest (DJI, Skydio)

Bridge / structure surveys uploaded via the survey upload flow.

    Available
  • NRSWA streetworks register sync

Two-way sync of works notices into the streetworks layer.

Regulatory & compliance fit

Code of Practice for Well-Managed Highway InfrastructureUK Roads Liaison Group
Risk-based inspection regimes are baked into form templates; defect-cycle metrics flow into the safety dashboard with a defensible audit log.
CS 450 Inspection of highway structuresNational Highways / DMRB
General and Principal inspection workflows live in the structures register; element scores roll up automatically to BCI / SCI.
NRSWA 1991 streetworks coordinationDfT
Streetworks notices on the same map as the carriageway and gully registers; coordination with utility works is one query, not three exports.
Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018GDS
Public-share works maps and committee dashboards built to WCAG 2.2 AA.

Sample dashboard KPIs

What a Monday-morning view looks like. Every KPI binds to live data in the same tenant; no copy-paste, no overnight ETL.

  • Open Cat 1 defects beyond intervention deadline
  • Average days from report to repair (by severity)
  • Network at or below condition grade D (km)
  • Structures below intervention threshold
  • Streetworks notices issued this week
  • Gully blockages YTD vs. cleansing schedule

Procurement & deployment

Stratumly is procurable via direct contract today and pricing is sized for county / unitary authority budgets. G-Cloud listing is planned for FY27. Sovereign UK-region deployment supported on ENTERPRISE tier.
